Just another failed .com company? IncWorx Consulting started as a product development company in 1998, funded by investors looking to get maximum return on their investment with no formal business plan (because it didn’t matter in those days). The company, then known as 2ClickMedia(2CM), had a vision of revolutionizing an over 50 year old technology known as television by offering video on demand. We were focused on developing technologies similar to MP3.com and Napster, but with a slant on video. We were way ahead of our time and the Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA) wasn’t too happy when they learned about our new generation of video (Tivo™ like) products for the web.
Seems like just yesterday, but do you remember Napster and many other firms were being sued out of existence? As much as we wanted to fight the system, we dodged a bullet by taking the more conservative route. There were plenty of case studies for our future as the RIAA had already started taking down many companies in the music world.
So, the bright and talented people of 2CM got a great idea to start a new company called IncWorx, today it is formally known as IncWorx Consulting. Why go into consulting? Well, we just all happened to come from that world and had more experience doing that then fighting a looming legal battle! So, IncWorx was born!
From our past experience, we knew we needed to be different, so we set out to change the way that most consulting firms worked. In 2001 we convinced a very skeptical client that we could make a mobile solution for them that would let their sales team go anywhere in the country and have access to information as if they were connected with their ERP system. The system they wanted would have to allow for querying customer information, scan product barcodes, store product purchase information (shopping cart) , get real-time inventory numbers and then allocate inventory real-time, get the latest products and pricing from their ERP system and finally print the sales order for the customers on the spot. From our experience, we knew this project has a lot of challenges, in fact, the client picked us out of 7 others competitors (mostly because the other companies couldn’t envision the proper solution). We won our very first client engagement and decided to write an application based on a brand new technology framework from Microsoft known as .NET. We still support that client application today! We appreciate the latitude the client gave to us to try something new that we felt was going to be big! In hind sight it was the best decision we would ever make.
In 2004 we decided to start the process of formalizing our relationship with Microsoft, even though we had no idea what that meant at the time. By early 2006 we became a certified partner and 11 months later in February of 2007 we earned gold partner status.
In 2006 we decided it was time to look outside of the great state of Illinois and expand our business nationally. Today, we have many clients coast to coast. Our next step is to go global. Check in sometime later, our story continues to evolve.
