IncWorx Rebrands University Intranet & Enhances Access to Information


The University of Alaska, with main administrative offices located in Fairbanks Alaska, consists of 3 main universities with several smaller satellite campuses. The university system educates more than 33,000 students and faces a particularly challenging scenario with great distances between campuses. 
OBJECTIVE

Given the land mass of Alaska, the campuses are thousands of miles apart and are constantly subject to weather that would shut down universities in the lower 48 states. In order to collaborate despite the distance between campuses, the University of Alaska leverages SharePoint 2010. A large challenge with SharePoint 2010 for the University of Alaska was providing users with a more intuitive interface for people who were not previously familiar with using SharePoint. The problem with making enhancements was that it would require time and skills that the University did not have immediately available.

RESULT

The University of Alaska was able to view a demo of BrandIt and immediately knew that this was the solution for them. In order to achieve what BrandIt would provide instantly, the university would have needed to send multiple developers to extensive training and then dedicate their time to the project which could have taken 6-12 months to complete which did not align with their desired time frame. Upon deciding to leverage the BrandIt solution, the University of Alaska was up and running in less than an hour and had the intranet completely customized with their logos, images, and colors in less than a week. In addition to the extremely elegant look and feel, the web parts included in BrandIt have provided with a very intuitive experience in SharePoint to get access to documents and data immediately without having to worry about navigating the intranet. BrandIt was a huge accelerator to the University of Alaska’s progress with SharePoint and allowed them to rapidly meet their objective and move on to other projects to continue to add value to the end users.
