General Motors (GM) is a top-ten Fortune 500 company that is known for its vastly diverse automobile brands. In over 100 years of being in business, GM has sold over 9 million vehicles in over 120 countries worldwide.
When a powerful business expands across the world, collaborative workspaces and social computing become essential. Whereas GM had implemented these concepts, there were overall concerns in their effectiveness. This led GM to reach out to IncWorx for a SharePoint Proof of Concept to address their challenges: user adoption of social computing, an efficient client portfolio management system, and the high occurrence of SharePoint Administration errors.
IncWorx’s SharePoint experts successfully delivered the vision, architecture, design, development and SharePoint support services plan for GM’s application. As a result of the improved layout and branding of the GM associates “My Sites” SharePoint portal, usage increased by 40%. Likewise, the Proof of Concept for the client portfolio system played a major role in GM winning a landmark client. Lastly, the issue of frequent SharePoint administrator errors would be solved by a fully-automated process through the use of technologies such as MOSS 2007, Silverlight, InfoPath, and Active Directory. The automation started from site creation, through SharePoint governance, and finally the site launch. The automated solution would reduce errors and workload for the SharePoint Administrators significantly, thus creating higher productivity rates and long-term application satisfaction.
