Power Apps Performance Optimization Cuts Load Times by 90%
Technologies Supported: Power Apps

A global manufacturer achieved dramatic Power Apps performance optimization by reducing SharePoint data calls from 21 down to just 1. That single architectural change cut page load times from 30 seconds to only 3–4 seconds, transforming the user experience and eliminating the lag that previously slowed down daily operations.

The Challenge

Slow Application Performance Impacted User Productivity

The organization relied on a Power Apps application to access and review project financial data stored in SharePoint. As the application evolved, the underlying formulas became increasingly dependent on multiple SharePoint connector requests.

Each time users navigated to key financial screens, the application executed 21 separate SharePoint queries to retrieve the required dataset. While the logic produced accurate results, the approach placed unnecessary demand on the SharePoint connector and created noticeable delays during screen transitions.

As a result, users regularly waited nearly 30 seconds for screens to load and data to become available. These delays disrupted workflows, reduced efficiency, and negatively affected the overall user experience.

Key challenges included:

  • Multiple SharePoint data calls for a single user action
  • Slow screen navigation and transition times
  • Long wait times when loading financial records
  • Reduced user satisfaction and productivity
  • Increased dependency on network and connector performance

The Solution

Consolidating Data Calls for Faster Processing

IncWorx conducted a performance assessment of the Power Apps application and identified the primary bottleneck: excessive SharePoint connector requests.

The existing approach generated 21 individual SharePoint calls to retrieve project financial records. While each call returned required information, the cumulative impact significantly slowed application performance.

To address the issue, IncWorx redesigned the data retrieval strategy by consolidating the requests into a single filtered SharePoint query. Once the required records were retrieved, the application performed the remaining processing locally using Power Apps collections.

This approach reduced network traffic, minimized SharePoint connector overhead, and allowed data manipulation to occur in memory rather than through repeated round trips to the data source.

Key improvements included:

  • Reduced SharePoint requests from 21 calls to 1 call
  • Optimized Power Apps formulas for efficient processing
  • Leveraged local collections for in-memory operations
  • Improved screen load and transition performance
  • Reduced connector dependency and network latency

The Results

Accelerating Application Performance and User Productivity

The optimization immediately improved application responsiveness and reduced delays caused by excessive SharePoint data requests. Users experienced significantly faster screen loads and smoother navigation, allowing them to access project financial information when needed without waiting for data retrieval processes to complete.

Results Achieved

  • Reduced SharePoint connector requests from 21 calls to 1 call
  • Improved data retrieval efficiency through local collection processing
  • Reduced average load times from 30 seconds to 3-4 seconds
  • Accelerated screen navigation and transitions
  • Created a faster, more responsive user experience
  • Established a scalable foundation for future application enhancements
